Delight on your plate

Our restaurant in Näfels offers a cozy atmosphere. Instead of a fixed menu, a dynamic lunch menu awaits you, based daily on the freshest regional ingredients from nearby farms. We place great value on enchanting regional products with creative culinary recipes to offer you an unforgettable taste experience.

A warm welcome – every guest is important to us

At Restaurant zum Ritter, everyone is welcome. Whether families, friends, or business people – we look forward to serving you. Spontaneous or with a reservation – challenge is our motto! We create a place where everyone feels comfortable, meets, and can spend valuable time together.

A sense of inspired clarity

Our guests should enter with curious anticipation and leave the restaurant with a sense of inspired clarity. We want you to feel completely at ease, spend cozy hours, and take the anticipation of your next visit home with you.

A Family Story in the Historic Schwert

After the venerable house in Näfels lay dormant for three years, we had the joy of breathing new life into it as Zum Ritter in May 2026. For us—Jozef Balog and Martin Sulak—taking over the restaurant was the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream and felt like destiny from the very first moment. Our journey together began on Christmas 2020. Years later, when we first stepped into this empty restaurant, we simply looked at each other and knew immediately: This is where we belong.

Zum Ritter is truly a labor of love and a genuine family business. Martin stands as our passionate head chef in the open kitchen—and he loves that guests can watch him cook. Nearly everything here is homemade and freshly prepared: Martin makes all sauces himself, and virtually no convenience products ever make it onto our plates. He has a particular soft spot for classic meat dishes like Chateaubriand with homemade jus—the kind of craftsmanship you rarely find today. Meanwhile, Jozef ensures your comfort in service and handles all the organization.

We are actively supported by our family from Slovakia: Margita takes wonderful care of our guests in service, Jara and David help out in the kitchen, and Ladislav keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes. The whole family actually lives together in the former hotel above the restaurant—as close as possible to the place we love.

By the way, the name Zum Ritter (The Knight) is no coincidence. The historic building has been known as Hotel Schwert (Sword) for over 150 years. As the saying goes: A sword belongs in the hands of a knight. Moreover, Jozef Balog’s family roots trace back to the Hungarian-Slovak history of 1556—to ancestors who were actual knights.
